A model of County Galway

GalwayOnFoot.ie is a 3D model of the county, settlement by settlement, with a page behind every named place on it: 62 towns and villages, 184,353 buildings. It is made for the questions people actually ask about a place: what is here, where is it, and how far is it on foot.

Where the facts come from

Building footprints, streets, place names, phone numbers and opening hours are OpenStreetMap data, last read on 2026-09-18, under the Open Database Licence. The base map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap from the same data. Heights come from the map where it records them; where it does not, a building stands two storeys tall.

Histories and guides are written in our own words from cited open sources, chiefly Wikipedia, and each page names its source. Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under open licences and are credited beside the picture. Nothing is written from memory or opinion. When a fact is missing the page says so and links to the map record, so anyone can add it.

Who makes it
