Moycullen
Ten kilometres out the Clifden road, Moycullen is where Galway's suburbs turn into Connemara. Its population grew by a third between the 2016 and 2022 censuses, to 2,279, most of them commuting to the city for work and school. It is inside the Gaeltacht on paper, a Category C area, though Irish has not been the local vernacular for many years, and its footballers have been county champions twice in the last few years.

Schools and church
Scoil Mhuire is the village primary school, with Scoil Naomh Bríde at Tullykyne, Scoil Bhaile Nua at Newtown and Scoil Naomh Cholmáin at Tooreeny in the parish. The Catholic parish, part of the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora, matches the civil parish, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception stands in the village.
Football, basketball and the lost railway
Moycullen won the Galway Senior Football Championship for the first time in 2020 and again in 2022, having taken the All-Ireland Intermediate Club title in 2008; the women won the Connacht intermediate title in 2017, the hurlers were county intermediate champions in 1964 and 2011 and Connacht champions that year, and Moycullen Basketball Club won the President's Cup in 2009. The Midland Great Western Railway opened a station here on 1 January 1895 on its Galway to Clifden line, closed with the line on 29 April 1935. Seán Kyne the politician and Mary O'Malley the poet are from the village. The model pins the church, the primary care centre and the training centre.
