Cyril Farrell, born on 1 August 1950, hurled and coached at every grade with the Tommy Larkin's club, winning the county and Connacht championships with them in 1971, took a Fitzgibbon Cup with UCG in 1977, and was appointed coach of the Galway seniors for the first time in 1979.

Seven major titles

Over three spells across twenty years Farrell led Galway to the All-Irelands of 1980, 1987 and 1988, the back-to-back titles the county had never managed, the National Leagues of 1986 to 1987 and 1988 to 1989, Connacht championships in 1997 and 1998, the All-Ireland under-21 titles of 1978 and 1996 and the minor title of 1983, and Connacht to Railway Cups in 1980, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991. No Galway manager has served longer or won more. The model on this page pins the Tommy Larkin's ground and the village.
