A short history
- 788St Cuan. The Annals of the Four Masters record the death of the village's patron; his well lies to the north-east.
- 1307The battle of Ahascragh. English forces met the O'Kelly chieftains here, the annals say; Clonbrock Castle nearby, a tower house of the late fifteenth century, is tied by tradition to the O'Kellys.
- About 1800 and 1815Two churches. The Church of Ireland church dates from about 1800 and the Catholic church from about 1815; an earlier church of St Cuan may have stood in the village before the Normans.
- 1990sMonica Loolly. Don't Feed the Gondolas on RTÉ closed each show with a send-up of village Ireland set in Ahascragh, with the invented head of the parish committee.
