Galwegians RFC
The club that gave Connacht Eric Elwood, John Muldoon and Bundee Aki plays at Crowley Park on the Dublin Road. Galwegians was founded in 1922, moved from the Grammar School grounds to become the first tenant of the Sportsground when it opened in 1928, and settled at Crowley Park in 1963. It fields more than sixteen teams and claims to have supplied more presidents of the IRFU than any club in the country.

Caps and presidents
Jimmy Joyce was the first Galwegian capped for Ireland, in wartime 1943, followed in the 1950s by Dicky Roche, Brendan Guerin, Charlie Lydon, Tony O'Sullivan and Johnny Dooley, and later by Eric Elwood in 1997, Pat Duignan, Matt Mostyn, Gavin Duffy, John Muldoon in 2009, Ronan Loughney, Niyi Adeolokun, Bundee Aki in 2017 and Caolin Blade in 2025; the women's internationals run from Stephanie Dowling Folan in 1997 through Sue Ramsbottom, Nuala Ní Chadhain, Carol Staunton and Ruth O'Reilly. Adeolokun played for the Barbarians against England at Twickenham in May 2018, and Aki toured South Africa with the Lions in 2021. Seven club men have presided over the IRFU: Henry Anderson in 1945, Johnny Glynn, Chris Crowley, John Moore, Bobby Deacy, Don Crowley and Billy Glynn in 2012.
Today
The men's senior side plays in Division 2A of the All-Ireland League and the women's seniors in the Women's All-Ireland League, with junior, thirds and underage sides from under-20 to under-7; Connacht's men's and women's squads draw heavily on the club. The model on this page pins Crowley Park with the Sportsground where it all began; the Connacht Rugby guide has the professional side.
