Connacht Tribune

The Tribune group prints two papers a week, the Connacht Tribune on Thursday and the Galway City Tribune on Friday, and they reach every district of the city and every town and village of the county. In January 2007 its weekly readership was over 150,000. It is the paper of record for the county and, for the towns on this site, the one that has been covering their councils, courts and matches for a century.

Three titles, one stable

The Connacht Sentinel began in 1925 and ran until 2014; the Galway City Tribune joined it in 1984. Since the Sentinel closed the Tribune has focused on county news, with staff journalists and district reporters around the county. John Cunningham was editor from 1984 to 2007, and the former hurler John McIntyre was sports editor as of 2004.

A red masthead

The logo was black until January 1995, red from Thursday 2 February 1995, and green for one issue, on 16 March 1995, the eve of St Patrick's Day. The group bought Galway Bay FM outright in 2006 and sold it in 2025. The model pins the Advertiser and the radio studios; the Tribune's offices are in the city.
