Galway Advertiser
Every Thursday a free paper lands in doorways from Salthill to Ballinasloe. Ronnie O'Gorman published the first Galway Advertiser on 16 April 1970 and edited it for thirty-one years, and in the 1980s he let the city's students write whole editions. Its home since 2001 is the old Norwich Union building on Eyre Square.

O'Gorman's paper
O'Gorman retired as editor in 2001 and became chairman of Galway Advertiser Ltd. That year the paper bought its Eyre Square headquarters for 1.5 million Irish pounds. It was the first regional paper under the Advertiser banner, followed by titles in Athlone and County Mayo and the advertiser.ie site. The model on this page pins the office on the square and the Galway Bay FM studios; the Connacht Tribune, the county's paid-for weekly, has its own guide.
