Galway Arts Centre
The tall house at 47 Dominick Street was built in the 1840s for the Persse family, the distillers whose name is on the Nun's Island buildings and whose daughter became Lady Gregory. Since 1982 it has been Galway Arts Centre, one of the first arts centres in Ireland outside Dublin, and it describes itself as an inclusive hub in the heart of the city with year-round access to several art forms.

From the Arts Group
The centre came out of the Galway Arts Group, a collective formed to support artists, which had founded the Galway Arts Festival in 1978 and in 1981 opened an arts centre in the vacant former Presbyterian church on Nun's Island. The Nun's Island venue is still used for exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, literary events, workshops, residencies and festivals, and the Dominick Street house holds the galleries and offices.
Around Dominick Street
The West End around Dominick Street is the city's pub and restaurant quarter; the Róisín Dubh is a few doors away and the Claddagh and the Spanish Arch are a short walk. The model on this page pins the centre, and the neighbouring venues have their own pages with hours.
