Renmore
Cross Lough Atalia on the footpath beside the railway, the Line, and you are in Renmore, the big headland, a suburb of some 5,000 people running east along the coast from the lough to Lurgan Park. It has a beach at Ballyloughane, an army barracks named for Liam Mellows, two primary schools and a pantomime that has run every year since 1979.

Along the shore
Renmore lies south of the Old Dublin Road, the R338, and includes Ballyloughane beach on the bay. St Oliver Plunkett church stands beside the national school, Scoil Chaitríona, and there is an all-Irish gaelscoil, Gaelscoil Dara. The ATU campus on the Dublin Road is one of the larger employers nearby.
The barracks and the panto
Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, Mellows' Fort, is the Irish Army base here, known in English as Renmore Barracks. The Renmore Panto began in 1979 with a first performance on the stage of the Jes Hall and has since played Leisureland and the Town Hall Theatre. The model on this page pins the community centre, the pharmacy and the post office; the beach is on the beaches category page.
